All You Need To Do Is Save The World

That’s a lot being said and it’s not something you can do all by yourself but you can do your part and you should, we all should. There is things we as individuals cannot influence but there is things we can: We can help stop the climate change, rainforest destruction, desertification and draughts, specimen extinction, water-pollution and fishless oceans, massive amounts of waste and the mass slaughter of animals. Just because it is not happening in front our eyes, it doesn’t mean it’s not happening or it’s none of your business. It is. It’s about the world you and your future children will live in.

One person is not going to make a difference! Maybe not right away but long terms it definitely does. For example, one person is able to save 162,486 gallons of water annually which is enough for 445 people only by eliminating meat and dairy out of their diet.
And you’re not alone in this! There is thousands of people living the vegan lifestyle, maybe even people you know, for example Miley Cyrus, Natalie Portman, Ariana Grande, Al Gore, Flo Rida, Tobey Maguire, Shania Twain, Alicia Silverstone, Anthony Kiedis, Casey Affleck, Kristen Bell, Alyssa Milano, Common, Joss Stone, Anne Hathaway, and Carrie Underwood.

Veganism is not just a certain diet. It is a lifestyle, a statement, a passion. And the most important thing is that it is not about you. It is about realizing that you need to put the world’s and animal’s needs before your cravings for meat and cheese. I know this stuff can be tasty but does it still taste as good when you consider that you’re actively contributing to all those terrible things happening. Be aware of what you’re supporting, what you give your money for, don’t contribute to cruel animal slaughter and irresponsible exploitation of the nature.

Not convinced?

Veganism is good for you! It’s good for your health, you will feel more energized and for sure lose some weight. The cholesterol and saturated animal fat found in meat, eggs, and dairy products don’t just clog the arteries to your heart. Over time, they impede blood flow to other vital organs as well. All the unhealthy fads in animal products which are hard to digest leave you feeling tired and un-energized. Studies proved that the average vegan is 20 pounds lighter than a meat-eater. Give it a try and see how amazing you’ll feel and look.

Do it for the animals, who aren’t able to speak for themselves. Animals feel pain and suffer just like humans. Mother cows cry for weeks when their baby was taken away every year. They are blinded alive and bled out while still conscious. Chicken have to live their whole life on a space as big as a sheet of paper, male chicken are shredded alive because there is no need for them. If this happened to humans you would speak up, would you? Please show some affection!
Why would you treat your dog differently than a pig? Why do dogs, cats or horses have the right to live and are appreciated, while pigs, chicken and cows don’t? Pigs can learn to play video games, and chickens are so smart that their intelligence has been compared by scientists to that of monkeys.

Vegan food is delicious! Check out some of my recipes! It’s not only the taste of delicious and nourishing food that makes it so good. It is benefiting your health, the environment and our animal friends.

Arguments and fears you you might have

Humans are Carnivore! We don’t our teeth resemble Frugivorous (fruit eaters) and canine teeth are a common thing with herbivores like hippos. Furthermore if you see a baby pig or baby cow you don’t think of it as food at all whereas when you smell a ripe mango your mouth waters. It is not in your nature to desire meat, it is something that you were raised to enjoy. Carnivores eat raw meat, would you? I don’t want to miss out on anything! Here’s the good news: you don’t have to miss out on something. You still can have Mac ‘n Cheese, Burgers and Yoghurt and it’s even healthier. What about the costs? It always depends on what you buy but rice, pasta and vegetables last longer and are cheaper than meat or cheese. Protein? I will list some facts down below but plants actually contain a lot of protein. Nutrients? By paying some attention to what you put into your body you can easily get all the nutrients you need. Calcium? Plants contain all the calcium you need and consuming milk products actually prevents your body from getting enough calcium by creating an acidic environment. Iron? Researches of British scientists showed that we get most of the iron from plant-based foods like wholegrain cereals, pasta or bread anyways.

Please, speak up, be passionate, do whatever you can do, become vegan!

“Because I know there are people who say all these things don’t happen. And there are people who forget what it’s like to be sixteen when they turn seventeen. And know these will all be stories someday. And our pictures will become old photographs. And we’ll all become somebody’s mom or dad. But right now these moments are not stories. This is happening. I am here and I am looking at her. And she is so beautiful. I can see it. This one moment when you know you’re not a sad story,
you are alive. And you stand up and see the lights on buildings. And everything that makes you wonder, when you were listening to that song on that drive with the people you love most in this world.
And in this moment, I swear, we are infinite.“

The time between October 10th and January 23rd I spent working on a vineyard.
So far I would say this was my favourite place in Australia, eventough it was way too hot and work was hard and boring. What made my time there so unforgettable were the people. I was living in a hostel in rural Mildura, Victoria called „One Big Family“ and that name actually suited it very well. I lived together with 60 other backpackers and I found amazing friends. I think has been the first and so far only place I really felt at home while travelling.

My job was called vine training which means working with little vine plants e.g making sure they grow in the right shape, tying them up etc.

The farm I worked on was an organic farm producing dried fruit (raisins, sultanas) and wine. The best thing about my job was being able to snack ok grapes all day!!

The worst thing abot farming was the heat. It got up to 45 degrees some days. On top of that doing the same thing for 8h got very boring but audiobooks such as Harry Potter, Tintenherz, die Känguru Chroniken and Twilight literally saved my life.

And yes there have been days when I absolutely hated work or got terribly bored in the hostel because there wasn’t much to do at all but the crazy weekends and amazing people totally made up for that!

Just a normal day on Big Farm

4:30 15-20° Alarm goes off. „Nooooo“
4:45-5:00 Breakfast and of course black tea „Why am I doing this? I’m way too tired and it’s fucking freezing“
5:46 17-22° Arrived on the farm „I don’t wanna get out! I don’t wanna work!“
8:00 20-25° made 40$ „Yay“
10:00 25-30° „it’s too hot, I’m dying, I’m bored and I’m soo tired….“ 80$
10:00-? BREAKTIME or nap time in a camping chair
12:30 35° „I’m MELTING! Come on girl, two more hours. You can do this!“ 120$
14:30 Everybody run to the van we’re going home!!!
15:30 „I smell like vines but I’m event to tired to shower.“
16:00-19:00 Food, chatting, being bored, maybe a nap.
19:00 GOON TIME!!!
22:00 „Well, I said I wanted to go to bed early…“

I had a blast at OBF, I met alot of different people, I learned a welsh word, I made friends with a farmer, I met a huntsman spider and a brown snake, I felt homesick, I got drunk on goon, I fell for someone, I laughed, I cried. And in the end leaving this place was one of the hardest things I ever did.

What’s next?

„I go to seek a great perhaps“
